Working in engineering in Wales, it was usually the same situation every year.
The management system would sit quietly in the background for months, then a few weeks before the LRQA surveillance visit everything suddenly became urgent.
- Documents being updated
- Records being chased
- Procedures being reviewed
- People trying to find evidence that should probably have been organised months earlier
And I’m sure a few people on here have experienced exactly the same thing.
Over time, it became clear that the better systems were never the ones with the most paperwork.
They were the ones that were:

- actually used by the people doing the work
